Have You Taken Time To Smell The Roses

When is the last time we have all stopped to take in a deep breath, took a morning walk, stopped to listen to the birds chirp at each other, or stop to smell the morning dew, fresh cut grass and the roses?

Were you in a rush today? We all have busy, hectic lives..... which never leaves us enough time to do all the things that we have planned, or accomplish. Times have changed.... It wasn't until last week did I realize that I haven't stopped to smell the roses in a very long time. I have been living a very hectic life for the last five years. I have let this hectic life take over a lot of what means most to me. I know you can relate, can't you? I was reading online and found an article about "A Wise Man Once Said" , so I thought I would share it with you.

- A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter.
He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks. The students laughed.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

"Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this is your life. The rocks are the important things - your faith, your family, your partner, your health, and your children - anything that is so important to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed".

"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car".

"The sand is everything else. The small stuff".

"If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life".

"If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness".

"Take time to pray, Play with your children. Take time to get medical check-ups. Take your wife out for dinner and a walk on the beach in the moonlight. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the garbage disposal".

"Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities".

"The rest is just sand." -

It makes so much sense to me, it doesn't have to be so hectic. Life is what we make of it. The saying goes “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away”. When was the last time you had a moment that took your breath away? And I don't mean by running around like a headless chicken. Let us all slow down the pace... take a walk with your family, listen to the birds and the frogs. It will be like the excitement a child gets when they are able to blow the fuzzy, soft petals of an over grown dandelion and watch the petals dance through the air or when they make a wish and blow out all their birthday candles.

Let us all recognize those that me the most to our lives and stop and smell the roses with them.

God bless you today and always. Michelle
